Portrait Photography Sessions : What to Expect

Book your session today

My process is pretty straightforward. I like to go with the flow when it comes to style and vibe, while also being highly technical and very detail oriented. After working in photography for almost 20 years, I’ve developed a dependable, well-honed routine, as you might imagine. It starts with making sure everything is as perfect as possible before our photoshoot so that, when we meet for the session, you and I can concentrate fully on creating strong, expressive images. From there I carefully transfer the files into my digital darkroom and spend focused time refining color, tone, sharpness, and the finer details. Once that finishing process is complete, you get to experience the final photographs, choose your favorites, and share them with loved ones.

Prior to our agreed-upon date here are a few things you should know.

  1. What to expect from me: I will show up on time and be ready to capture as many frames as possible to give you a variety of photos. My goal is to photograph you in the best possible way available and also deliver you quality photos in a timely fashion.

  2. How long is my average photo session: On average, my workflow takes anything from 1 to 2 hours. Especially if there are outfit changes involved.

  3. Posing: This is where I come in and direct you, the best thing you can do is to be yourself and be comfortable. Traditionally I like to follow the style of a formal portrait but with a go with the flow kind of attitude.

  4. Outfits and Styling: Outfit changes are encouraged. One outfit is typically the normal amount but there are things we can do to maximize the use of our time and also let the creativity flow. I always tell my clients to come ready with their first outfit on, to dress in layers if possible, and to bring some options in the appropriate colors. Colors that accentuate your features are encouraged. It helps to think of a color theme and coordinate your outfits based on that. I can advise you on what colors work best as we move along the process.

  5. Location: (For outdoor locations only due to Covid 19 restrictions) Prior to our meeting, a location will be established. I operate in the Dallas area and I can offer a convenient location for us to be outside, or I can meet you where you are most comfortable, whether it’s the place where you first met or your favorite spot in the city.

  6. Post Production: Depending on the length of the photoshoot, I can usually deliver anything between 50 to 150 photos, and this is usually narrowed down some more to the very best shots. All photos will then be digitally developed to maximize the quality.

  7. Turnaround: On average depending on my workload, expect to see final photos 5 to 7 business days after. Your photos will arrive in the form of a link from which you can download all your photos. This link will also come with options for printing, framing, or photo album production.

  8. Settling Payment: $75 non-refundable booking fee is required to guarantee your session those $75 will go towards the final price. Payment is expected at the end of the photoshoot, I accept cash, credit card, and Venmo.

  9. User Rights: As the photographer, I reserve the rights to the photos and will allow you the client to use the photos as well. I may post these photos on my website or Instagram account. If you post them on your social media I do appreciate a shout out :)
